That's not what I meant. Twitter has a "for.you" feed, which uses the algorithm to (poorly) try to show you what it thinks you are interested in, that is true.

But Twitter also has a "latest" feed, which is meant to be only a chronological display of posts from people you follow.

But for a long time, if you refreshed the page while viewing the latter, it would silently switch back to the former. On the mobile app it also appends "you may also like" posts to the end of discussion threads. Both designed to show you more monetised posts, even if you are not interested.

Mastodon doesnt do this at all, and BSky respects your settings.

well for a while a bunch of us were posting our user logins automatically to twitter. i also used to post system news about my sites if there were
issues. that was useful. i didnt have to be up for people to get news on my services.

i guess it's still 'microblogging'; i'm not too interested in it.
i will check twitter/x out sometimes. i'm not a big ego maniac and i dont just like to put random opinions and ideas out there on the web. i dont care enough, too.

linkedin is something i dont use other than stalking.

Yeah, I created a Twitter account around 2010 but I never really used it. I was never really interested in seeing the posts there, especially since they're limited to being very short.

Linkdin is another one that I quit visiting for the same reason.

I actually find value in LinkedIn for job-related networking. Over the years, I've found at least a couple jobs when recruiters found my profile there. I've also kept in touch with some people I used to work with there.

I try to avoid politics on both sites (not easy), but on X and BlueSky stick to the following tab and set what you want. BlueSky seems a little more active on the ANSI, etc front to me.

I used Twitter from the beginning, and I lament the cesspool it has become. I still have an account there, but very seldom post anything now.

Bluesky is more political than I'd like, but I enjoy it far more than Twitter. And Mastodon is quite good, especially for retrocomputing stuff. A lot of good tech/BBS communities there.

I think that's how it is too. Now that more or less everyone can express their opinion on X on an equal footing, those who used to benefit from the suppression of other opinions don't like it.

I'm not going along with that. I am grateful that Elon has liberated Twitter, and I don't need dozens of other 'alternatives' that aren't really alternatives, but just places where offended people can enjoy their echo chambers all by themselves.

Why not have an equal debate? Why not allow both opinions and worldviews? I thought that's what makes democracies so wonderful and leads to the better arguments winning?

Linkedin is absolute trash, unless your idea of a good service is a digital square in which people gather to form a circle and suck each other's cocks.

Seriously, I don't have an account, but what I have seen when other people has showed me what is going on in their accounts is lots of people posting some poorly made guide with supposed professional applications, and then lots of people praising their obviously poor post.

Oh, yes, it seems a little more full of dreck than other platforms. OTOH,
you can find plenty of unhinged, lunatic posts on twitter/x and threads... although most of them don't involve upper management sociopaths and their
work "ethic." ;)

Why not have an equal debate? Why not allow both opinions and
worldviews? I thought that's what makes democracies so wonderful and
leads to the better arguments winning?

most liberals nowadays do not want freedom. they also want a stacked deck
all the time in politics. for example , multiple times hillary wanted to
know all the questions in debates and she also wanted to have questions
limited and vetted before being interviewed. it's the new normal.

They went to BlueSky where they can enjoy their own SafeSpace. The problem >UG> is social media is just as crazy as bbsing where people like to be
litteral twits to each other.

And lately, nothing can be closer to the truth. I tire of it sometimes myself.

IMHO, most social media sites are much worse when it comes to "crazy" and "twits" than BBSes are.

I backed in to parking slot at work.
Most cars were pulled in to the slot.

What really ticked me off was when I backed into park, the person I was relieving had pulled in, and after opening the door to get out would pour what was left in their drinking cup out on the driveway.
In freezing weather,it was interesting trying to open my car door without slipping on the Ice Spot they created.

I Do Agree with You, pulling out of a parking slot is Safer than trying to back out.
